How to Turn a Yellow Cake Mix into a Chocolate Mix

Yellow gluten-free cake mixes are often easier to find than chocolate ones, so be industrious and make your own chocolate mix from a yellow one. You can:

Add half of a package (¼ cup) of chocolate instant pudding mix and 2 ounces of melted bittersweet chocolate to the batter, or

Add 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to the batter, or

Marble the cake batter in the pan with gluten-free chocolate syrup just before baking. Squirt 3 tablespoons of the syrup in a zigzag pattern over an 8–inch pan filled with yellow cake batter or squirt 5 to 6 tablespoons of syrup over a 13 by 9–inch pan. Using a dinner knife, swirl the chocolate syrup into the batter to create a marbled effect.
